Amputated ideas of a great life
He saw the alluring advertisement on the crowded bus one day when rushing home from work. It was one of those images with a smiling and successful looking face that makes your own appearance seem dull and insignificant. “Trusted by millions” was written in a bold font all over the photo. He wouldn’t normally give these posters any greater attention, but that man had a look of content that he himself was desperately looking for. He kept reading the much smaller text about how this safe amputating surgery would make you see your life from new perspectives. That it would give you new cells that would rearrange themselves to make you feel better. It would give you a better sense of purpose and make you feel more comfortable throughout your life. It would give you meaning. Even joy. He took a quick photo with his phone with the intent to call the next morning and then got off the bus. With all organs beautifully intact for the very last time in his life.
